The Psalms are full of the language of desire. And there are few desires more painful or powerful than hunger and thirst.
"My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food...when I remember you" (Ps. 63:5–6).
"My soul thirsts for you like a parched land" (Ps. 143:6).
How does God respond to these prayers of desire? "I am the LORD your God...Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it" (Ps. 81:10).
Having nothing better to give that could satisfy the depth of our craving, God gives us Himself. Our 2022 Summer in the Psalms series addresses this theme of hunger and thirst, our spiritual appetites. In view of our culture's fast food approach to desire, God does not give us a starvation diet. He gives us so much more.
"They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights" (Ps. 36:8).
We will explore our desire for God through Psalms 42, 63, 119, and 107. We encourage you to read and pray, memorize and meditate on these psalms in your own personal and family worship.
