We want to see CrossTown flourish through the Gospel of Jesus Christ by creating a Kingdom environment where disciples are made.

The Beginning

Just a few years ago, NewCity set its sights on establishing a ministry in Orlando’s most distressed neighborhood, Parramore. Through this initiative the foundation for ministry was laid and CrossTown was born.

The Neighborhood

CrossTown is an under-resourced, inner city neighborhood just west of downtown Orlando, FL. The community was given this name by its residents, so you won’t find CrossTown on any maps or official documents. You will see it tattooed on arms, etched on basketball courts, and written in people’s hearts. Built on the other side of Division Ave, the effects of segregation and racial prejudice have created multi-generational poverty, which has led to broken families and broken people. However, it is by God’s providence that this neighborhood, long plagued by poverty, drugs, crime, and hopelessness, would have the very source of hope in its name—the Cross.

The Calling

After his death and resurrection, Jesus said, “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”  Jesus didn’t accomplish his mission from heaven; he left heaven, put skin on, and got in the game. So it is with CrossTown.  Eric and Kristen Stites live incarnationally in the CrossTown community, together with their three young boys—Sam, Mason, and Nash. They now lead CrossTown, where they desire to see the community thrive as the Gospel takes root, impacts whole lives, and develops community leaders to impact their own neighborhood for God’s glory.

CrossTown Summer Camp: An all day 8-week summer camp for elementary students. Camp helps establish the NewCity culture with both new and current students. We work to retain educational progress from the previous year, develop character, study God’s Word, have experiences outside the neighborhood, and participate in enrichment activities (dance, sports, art, etc).

Jobs Partnership: We are partnering with Jobs Partnership to bring a LifeWorks class to the CrossTown community in Spring 2020. This class will teach our neighbors about the God-given dignity of work, the soft skills needed to attain and maintain a job, and connect them with real employers.
